The Bioproduction of Epinephrine: Turning Amino Acids Into Life-Saving Medicine in Yeast
Domestic production of pharmaceuticals strengthens national drug security, reduces reliance on fragile global supply chains, and allows for tighter regulatory oversight to ensure quality and safety. Production within the US can also help mitigate shortages of critical medications and reduce response times, especially for some life-saving treatments. Epinephrine, commonly used for anaphylaxis and cardiac arrest, is a pharmaceutical of interest for commercial and military use. Bioproduction of epinephrine in yeast is a promising alternative to traditional chemical synthesis, lowering costs and reducing environmental impact.
