Lots-a-Lassa: A Mathematical Model for Lassa Fever Induced Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Lassa fever is a viral hemorrhagic illness that can be transmitted from rodents to humans as well as from humans to other humans, with severe cases leading to organ failure and uncontrolled bleeding. Moreover, a third of survivors experience some degree of hearing loss, a significant complication considering there are currently no FDA-approved vaccines for the virus. Here, we use mathematical modeling to analyze the spread of Lassa fever in-depth, considering emerging vaccines and cases of hearing loss.
