Baltimore at Risk: Strengthening Soil with Natural Biopolymers
Rising sea levels and other coastal threats are accelerating erosion, particularly in vulnerable areas around the Baltimore Harbor. To help reduce these impacts, our project investigates the use of chitosan, a natural biopolymer, to increase soil cohesion. This study focuses on evaluating unconfined compressive strength and discerning critical shear stress to enhance soil stability and reduce erosion susceptibility.
